Soccer School - How to Play a Killer Pass

Soccer School - How to Play a Killer Pass Video Clips. Duration : 3.78 Mins.

This type of soccer pass is a fun one! Today in this Online Soccer Academy training video we are learning how to play a killer pass or through ball. Think of it like soccer school! This is what it looks like. Description: A through ball is used to play a pass behind defenders. The pass cuts them out of the game. A through ball is mainly used in the attacking third of the field. Equipment Needed: You will need 5 cones, a ball and a partner if you have one. Exercise Player Can Do: Set up 4 cones in a line about 15 yards apart. A start cone, two middle cones next to each other that are your imaginary defender, then an end cone where your attacking partner stands. The fifth cone is placed up the field angled inside from your partner's cone about 10 yards. Now, imagine you are dribbling across the field and the defenders are moving across with you. If you pass a square ball to your teammate, have you done anything dangerous? No! The defenders just shuffle across and the ball is still in front of them. This is where we want to play that killer pass behind the defense! So instead of passing square, pass behind the defenders and tell your teammate to run after it. Now the defenders are chasing and that is what we want! Do a set of 10 reps and then switch with your partner. If you don't have a partner, just imagine you do and get use to the idea of playing a through ball. Key Points: 1. Disguise your pass! If you turn your shoulders to play your through pass, everyone will see ...

Football Drills For Cornerbacks and Defensive Secondary Positions

Through recent years NFL General Managers have made a noticeable trend in the type of players they value the most in the 1st, 2nd and 3rd rounds of the NFL draft. Of all the players selected in each round since 2000, a majority of these players have been Defensive Backs and Safeties. This trend is largely due to the skills and talent that these players can instantly bring to a defensive. With a unique combination of speed, agility and quickness, Defensive Secondary positions can transform a good defense into a GREAT defense immediately.

In order to become an impact player as described, a young Defensive Secondary player must dedicate themselves to a strict training program of enhancing speed and quickness, while simultaneously preparing for any and all circumstances that can occur during a game.

Soccer Drills

The following two articles are dedicated to teach young Defensive Backs or Safeties the principles of becoming GREAT defenders. These drills are currently being utilized by today's top Defensive Secondary Coaches and players. They are a regular part of their off season training and individual practices, and if you can implement these drills into your normal training schedule and dedicate yourself, you will see an enormous increase in your ability to be a game changing player.

Football Drills For Cornerbacks and Defensive Secondary Positions

Drill 1: Break on the Ball

This drill is probably the most well know among all of the Defensive Secondary drills that exist today. It involves using all the necessary reaction skills, speed, and agility required to effectively simulate covering a receiver and breaking on the ball. Today's greatest Secondary players such as Champ Bailey, Troy Polamalu, and Pacman Jones work on this drill religiously, and it obviously translates into their performance in each game.

Purpose

Increase Secondary coverage skills through enhancing drop back capabilities while quickening the reaction and break on a pass.

PLEASE NOTE: This drill will require a 35-50 yards of a football field or a park. Make sure the yardage is marked appropriately to get the proper feel for the depth and feel of each route.

Bump and Run/Man to Man Coverage

Step 1: Pick a starting spot where you have at least 20 yards to drop back into coverage.

Step 2: Assume you are playing man to man coverage on the outside receiver and play bump and run for the initial 5 yards. (Back pedal with hands on an imaginary receiver)

Step 3: At 5 yards turn your hips and sprint to the 20 yard line.

Step 4: Break the route into a comeback towards the sideline and sprint to the Line of Scrimmage.

Step 5: Repeat steps 1-4 for three sets, working both left and right side of the ball. 25 second rest between each drill.

Zone Coverage

Step 1: Same

Step 2: Play at least 5 yards off the Line of Scrimmage. Drop back in a pure backpedal as FAST AS YOU CAN to the 20 yard line.

Step 3: Once your foot touches the 20 yards line, break AS FAST AS YOU CAN directly back in the path you just ran and SPRINT to the Line of Scrimmage.

Step 4: Repeat steps 1-3 for three sets, alternating each the left and right side of the ball. 25 seconds rest in between each set.

Coaching Tips

Maintain a low center of gravity during the Bump and Run and back pedal Chop you feet SLIGHTLY when you make a break on the ball. On the break, keep you feet directly under you. If your feet are too far in front of you, you will slip and fall, GUARANTEED! Sprint through the Line of Scrimmage, DO NOT LET UP until you are 1-2 yards past. Practice GREATNESS. Mediocre and good players will jog through the Line of Scrimmage.

Youth Football Drills - Make The Fundamentals Fun!

on Friday, August 24, 2012

Make Practice Fun!

Youth football drills will improve the skills of your football team. If you are the coach of a young team of eager football players, the following youth football skills will help you move the team forward into both comprehension of the stances of the on field playing game and the repetitive skills it takes to be a dedicated professional player. Youth football drills should be informative and fun, so you can keep the team players interested while they learn.

Soccer Drills

Youth Football Drills All Begin With Ready Stance:

Youth Football Drills - Make The Fundamentals Fun!

The Ready Stance drill teaches one of the proper "ready" football stances. Line up your team into lines and shout "ready"... "stance". Walk up and down the lines as the players crouch into their stances. Correct any players that are not in the correct position. This is one of the most important, basic football skills needed.

Quick Hit Drill:

The Quick Hit drill helps team members, such as the blocking backs and linemen, in quickly moving from the Ready Stance into a blocking position. Youth football drills, such as this one, are basic to the game. The players will make a circle and stand in their Ready Stance. On your command, the players will pop into a pass protection position, take a quick step with the outside foot, and assume the squat position ready to strike a blow. Repeat these youth football drills as needed.

Youth Football Drills With Receiver Concentration:

Youth football drills, such as this one, should ensure the receiver can get the ball, hone in on the ball, and pat attention watching the ball throughout its flight until it lands clutched in his hands. Getting hit is not a factor in this drill. Take three players holding hand shields and line them up ten yards deep, three yards apart from one another in a triangle formation. Your receiver will run a pattern specified by you, which will land him in the middle of the triangle. Once the receiver enters the triangle, your quarterback will throw a high pass that will make the receiver jump to make the catch. As the receiver touches the ball with his hands, the three players in the triangle will jam the receiver with their respective shields.

Youth Football Drills Teach Good Balance:

Good balance is important to all sports, but especially to all youth football drills. For a Good balance drill, have your team players line up across from one another on the field. Have each player grab the shoulder pads of the player situated directly in opposite from them. Each player should take turns trying to knock his "opponent" off balance. He will do this by pulling, pushing, and tipping his opponent from side to side. The opponent will get down into a low base, and move his feet around to maintain balance.

There are many youth drills for football players. Each one is meant to help youth teams learn fundamentals of the game, as well as learn the importance of playing as a team unit. By improving your team in practice, you will be giving them opportunity to overcome any obstacles on the field.
