Speed and Agility Training - Drills to Boost Your Performance

The drills are very important for any athlete when he is under training. The same goes for speed and agility training. This training is very important for the sports persons who are into team sports like basketball, soccer, volleyball etc. In this article, I will explain in brief about few simple drills that deliver the desired results for you. They are:

1. Basic Sprints: First, take two cones and then place them 10 - 20 meters apart. Now sprint from one cone to the next cone. Then slowly jog back to the starting point. You can try different kinds of start like jump up, facing backwards, and jump to head a ball etc. This will make the drill bit more interesting.

2. Hollow Sprints: Take five cones and set them out. Each cone must be 30 meters apart from another. You begin with sprint in the first interval. Then jog the second interval. In the next interval, again you have to sprint. Hence, you will finish the last interval by jogging. Now walk back to the starting point of the first interval and repeat the same procedure.

3. Cruise and Sprint: Here, you have to sprint for 100 meters. Start slowly at the beginning but keep increasing the speed steadily. You must be at full speed when you reach around 60 meters. Now, finish the last 40 meters with full speed. It is recommended to do repetitions 2 - 3 times only since it requires much time to finish.

4. The Zigzag: This drill type is very commonly practiced by the sports persons. First, you have to place a series of 6 - 8 cones in a straight line. These cones must be one meter apart from each other. Now, jog through the cones in zigzag manner. Once it is finished, come to the first cone and repeat the same once again.
